Donald Trump Urges Military Intervention to Fix Chicago Violence
President Donald Trump called for federal military intervention in Chicago, a proposal Governor JB Pritzker rejected while criticizing the president's record.
President Donald Trump criticized the Democratic leadership of Illinois, calling for federal military intervention to combat violence in Chicago. Using Truth Social, Trump claimed more than 273 Americans had been shot in the city since the start of the conflict with Iran, though a Newsweek analysis of city records indicated a higher toll of 523 people shot between February 28 and July 5.
Trump asserted he could make Chicago safe within one month and urged Governor JB Pritzker to request federal assistance. He compared the city's shooting victims to U.S. military casualties in the Iran conflict to highlight the severity of urban violence.
Governor Pritzker rejected the proposal, ridiculing the president's record regarding the Washington Monument's Reflecting Pool and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Pritzker stated that the president lacks the knowledge necessary to protect the state of Illinois.
