CBP Recruits 3,000 Agents to Support Trump Deportation Agenda

Donald Trump has initiated a broad federal agency makeover to execute a pledged agenda of deporting undocumented migrants. As part of this effort, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is recruiting 3,000 additional Border Patrol agents to supplement the 19,000 currently deployed, utilizing funds from a federal budget bill.

The CBP academy in Artesia, New Mexico, reports its highest enrollment since 2009 with 1,100 trainees, a figure expected to rise to 1,500 by mid-2026. New training protocols emphasize assertive tactics, including vehicle chases and the integration of updated weapons technology.

This expansion coincides with increased enforcement actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the deployment of National Guard troops in large, predominantly Democrat-led cities. These federal movements occur despite opposition from various state and local law enforcement agencies.
