Ghana and Gambia Congratulate US on 250th Anniversary

President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana and the Embassy of The Gambia joined the United States in commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence in early July 2026. In a statement issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 5, Mahama congratulated President Donald Trump and described the relationship between Ghana and the United States as enduring and unshakeable.

Mahama highlighted a history of cooperation since 1957, specifically citing economic and developmental milestones such as the Akosombo Dam, the Volta Aluminium Company, the Millennium Challenge Compact, and the African Growth and Opportunity Act. He emphasized that the bilateral partnership is built on shared commitments to the rule of law, human rights, democracy, and economic prosperity.

Simultaneously, the Embassy of The Gambia in Washington, D.C., marked the milestone by decorating its premises with American flag-colored balloons and illuminations. In a formal statement, the embassy praised the United States as a global leader in innovation and democratic ideals, while expressing gratitude to the United States Department of State for supporting The Gambia's socio-economic development and democratic consolidation.
