Democrats Projected to Flip House in 2026 Midterms
Democrats are predicted to win the House of Representatives as voters use the November 3 midterm elections as a referendum on President Donald Trump.
The United States prepares for midterm elections on November 3, 2026, with all 435 House seats, roughly one-third of the Senate, and 36 governorships at stake. Forecasters project a likely Democratic sweep of the House, with a predicted floor of 223 seats. Analysts attribute this advantage to higher voter enthusiasm and the declining approval rating of Donald Trump, which fell from 44% to 36% following joint U.S.-Israeli military strikes against Iran in February.
Senate races remain more competitive, with several toss-ups in Kansas, Alaska, and Iowa. In South Carolina, the race between Republican Senator Darline Graham and Democrat Annie Andrews has shifted to a toss-up, prompting President Trump to campaign in the state's Upstate region. In Ohio, the Senate race has moved to Lean Democratic for Sherrod Brown over Jon Husted, while the gubernatorial race also leans Democratic for Amy Acton over Vivek Ramaswamy.
In Georgia, high-profile contests include a Senate race between Jon Ossoff and Mike Collins, and a gubernatorial race between Keisha Lance Bottoms and Rick Jackson. While Republicans maintain a financial edge bolstered by over 250 million dollars in donations from Elon Musk, Democrats hold financing advantages in specific races like the Georgia Senate seat.
If Democrats flip one or both chambers, they could block judicial nominations, restrict funding for presidential orders, and launch investigations into the administration.
