Donald Trump Showcases New White House Granite Helipad

President Donald Trump toured a new multimillion-dollar granite helipad on the White House South Lawn designed to support heavier Marine One helicopters.

President Donald Trump led a tour of the White House South Lawn on Wednesday to showcase a new granite helipad. The project, estimated to cost between $5 million and $6 million, allows newer and more powerful Marine One helicopters to land on the lawn without damaging the grass.

During the tour, Trump signed a granite slab that will be placed on the back of the eagle in the U.S. seal, hidden from public view once the project is finished. The helipad will serve as a landing site for the president and foreign dignitaries, and will also function as a cocktail space for a ballroom currently under construction.

While Trump stated that Sikorsky and private donations are funding the project, Lockheed Martin, the parent company of Sikorsky, clarified that its financial contribution was made to the National Park Service.
