JD Vance Campaigns for Republicans at Maine Manufacturing Plant

Vice President JD Vance visited Compotech, a defense technology manufacturer in Brewer, Maine, on Monday to support Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. During the event, Vance promoted the Trump administration's America First policies, claiming the government has laid the foundation for a manufacturing renaissance. He specifically endorsed former Governor Paul LePage for Maine's 2nd Congressional District and praised Senator Susan Collins, though Collins did not attend the event and has criticized the administration's 50% tariffs on Canada.

Vance addressed several policy issues, linking tighter southern border restrictions to a 17% decrease in Maine's overdose rates and claiming that undocumented immigration has increased housing costs. He also targeted Medicaid fraud within the MaineCare program, warning that those defrauding taxpayers would face imprisonment. On trade, Vance defended a trade war with Canada, demanding the Canadian prime minister stop taking advantage of the United States.

Other speakers included Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler and Paul LePage. Democratic opponents, including Matt Dunlap, criticized the visit, arguing that the administration's policies have not improved conditions in Maine. Vance also briefly addressed the fatal shooting of Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero by an ICE agent in Biddeford, noting that a federal investigation is ongoing.
