Russian Drones Destroy Indian-Linked Pharmaceutical Plant in Sumy
Russian drones destroyed a Kusum Group pharmaceutical plant in Sumy, killing one person and causing damages estimated at 400 crore rupees.
Russian drones struck a pharmaceutical plant in the Sumy region of Ukraine on Sunday, killing one person and injuring several others. The facility is operated by the Kusum Group, an Indian-linked company headed by Rajeev Gupta. The attack largely destroyed the main structure of the plant, with preliminary damage estimates reaching at least ₹400 crore.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike, stating that the facility produced critically needed medicines. He noted that "tragically, one person was killed" and emphasized that "it is important that Ukraine is not left alone against this terror."
The strike was part of a wider Russian aerial campaign that targeted a communications facility in Dnipro and the Pivnichnyi Bridge in Kyiv. The Kusum Group, which began as a distributor of Indian medicines in Ukraine in 1994 and opened the Sumy plant in 2009, had remained operational throughout the war until this attack. This marks the second time the company's Ukrainian operations were targeted, following a 2025 drone strike that destroyed a warehouse in Kyiv.
