Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed during an appearance on the Hang Out with Sean Hannity podcast that reporters frequently apologize to her in private for asking unfair questions on camera. Leavitt described the White House briefing room as performative, asserting that journalists are often controlled by editors and executives who demand aggressive questioning to secure news clips and protect their livelihoods.

These comments come amid a legal battle after President Donald Trump revoked the White House press credentials of CNN, MS NOW, and Politico. Those three outlets have sued the administration to regain access, while other networks have reportedly boycotted pool coverage in solidarity. While Leavitt characterized some press members as left-wing hacks, she praised recent leadership changes at CBS News under Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, stating the network has shown improvement in fairness and accuracy.

Leavitt, the youngest person to hold the office, stepped down at the end of August to spend more time with her family. Donald Trump praised her as one of his most trusted aides and announced she will remain one of his top outside advisors. Leavitt intends to return to her work at MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump political action committee. The White House has not yet named a successor for the press secretary role.
