Pakistan Lowers Petrol Prices Amid New Austerity Measures
The Government of Pakistan reduced petrol prices by Rs2.93 per litre while increasing diesel costs as part of broader fuel conservation efforts.
The Government of Pakistan reduced the price of petrol by Rs2.93 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs395.37 per litre effective October 13, 2026. Simultaneously, the government increased the price of high-speed diesel by 61 paisas per litre. Reports on the final diesel price vary, with figures cited at both Rs396.35 and Rs396.85 per litre.
These adjustments were issued via notifications from the Petroleum Division and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. The changes stem from a daily pricing mechanism established in July to address volatility in global oil markets.
The price shifts coincide with wider efforts to manage fuel costs and consumption. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif previously announced a special relief scheme on September 13 that provides discounts for low-capacity vehicles. Additionally, the Cabinet Division has reintroduced austerity measures that restrict the operating hours of commercial venues and businesses to conserve energy.
