Indian Leaders Honor Mahatma Gandhi on 157th Birth Anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and regional leaders marked Gandhi Jayanti by urging citizens to adopt non-violence and support indigenous Khadi products.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, marking Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence. In messages shared via video and X, Modi highlighted the principles of truth, simplicity, and Swadeshi as guides toward a better society and a developed India. He specifically urged citizens to purchase Khadi products to honor Gandhi's promotion of indigenous goods.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha issued greetings on the eve of the anniversary and again on October 2. Abdullah emphasized that Gandhi's messages of communal harmony, peace, and compassion remain relevant for building an inclusive society rooted in tolerance. Lieutenant Governor Sinha called for a collective effort to build a prosperous region and a developed India through the ideals of Satya, Ahimsa, and Sarvodaya.
Sinha also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, describing him as the epitome of simplicity and integrity. In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended greetings to his constituents, stating that Gandhi's path of non-violence provided a message of freedom to the world and continues to guide the creation of a self-reliant India.
