Iran Missile Strikes Kill US Soldiers in Jordan

Iranian forces launched a series of ballistic missile and drone attacks against U.S. military assets in Jordan between July 17 and 20, 2026. A strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base killed 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, bringing the confirmed U.S. military death toll in the ongoing conflict with Iran to at least 17. Additional strikes targeted C-17 and P-8 aircraft at Aqaba airport as part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Operation Nasr 2.

Donald Trump vowed to continue striking Iran very hard in response to the deaths. However, the United States Department of Defense and U.S. Central Command face accusations of concealing injuries to dozens of other soldiers and damage to helicopters from three undisclosed Iranian attacks in Jordan. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is further accused by wounded personnel of designating injuries as less severe than they were. U.S. officials defended the limited reporting as a measure to prevent Iran from refining its targeting capabilities.

Other casualties include a service member killed in northern Iraq on July 18 by ordnance from a downed Iranian drone and six soldiers killed in a separate strike in Kuwait. In response to the escalating tension, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq warned it will target all U.S. interests and military bases in Iraq and the wider region if the United States expands its operations against Iran.
