SNP Invites Prime Minister Andy Burnham to Party Conference
The Scottish National Party invited Prime Minister Andy Burnham to its annual conference following his planned visit to Scotland to discuss local devolution.
The Scottish National Party has invited Prime Minister Andy Burnham to attend its annual party conference at the P&J Live in Aberdeen this weekend. The invitation follows reports that Burnham will visit Scotland on Friday to advocate for the devolution of powers from the Scottish Parliament to local councils.
SNP Deputy Leader Keith Brown stated the conference is the appropriate venue for the Prime Minister to establish an "agreed legal process" for Scotland's constitutional future. While the SNP claims the push for independence has "turned a corner," Burnham has reaffirmed that a second independence referendum is "off limits," citing a lack of clear consensus.
The visit highlights a political clash between Burnham and First Minister John Swinney. Swinney previously claimed that Burnham would be the UK's last prime minister, a statement Burnham said made him feel "utterly determined to prove him wrong."
