ICE Deploys AI Surveillance Tools for Mass Deportation Campaign

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has integrated a vast suite of AI-powered surveillance and data analytics tools to execute a mass deportation campaign under the second term of President Donald Trump. The agency has already removed over 350,000 people, utilizing tools to filter and track undocumented individuals and conduct raids in homes, workplaces, and parks.

ICE spent over $5 million on tools from PenLink, including a $2 million purchase of Tangles, an AI software that aggregates data from the open internet, the dark web, and leaked records to create individual profiles. The agency also employs facial recognition from Clearview AI, phone-unlocking technology from Magnet Forensics, and data management systems from Palantir, specifically ImmigrationOS and Investigative Case Management. To enhance field operations, ICE and Homeland Security Investigations have deployed cell-site simulators integrated into specialized vehicles and reactivated a contract with Israeli spyware maker Paragon Solutions.

While ICE officials state the agency leverages technological innovation to fight crime, the Electronic Frontier Foundation warns that these tools enable indiscriminate and warrantless data collection. The agency's tactics, including warrantless home entries, have triggered widespread protests and legal challenges regarding Fourth Amendment violations.
