Trump Weighs Male Successor for Outgoing Press Secretary Leavitt

President Donald Trump is considering a male replacement or rotating Cabinet officials after Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt resigns at the end of August.

Donald Trump is deciding on a successor for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who will vacate her position at the end of August to spend more time with her children. While Trump initially expressed zero urgency in naming a replacement, he is now reportedly seeking a man for the role to avoid continuing a pattern of appointing women, as four female press secretaries have served across his two terms.

Potential candidates include conservative media pundit Scott Jennings, former George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer, and White House aide Natalie Harp. Earlier rumors had suggested former personal attorney Alina Habba for the position. Trump has indicated that Leavitt will transition into a role as one of his top outside advisors and an influential voice within the Republican Party.

If a permanent appointment is not made, the administration may return to a rotating briefing schedule using Cabinet officials and Vice President JD Vance. This system was previously employed during Leavitt's maternity leave earlier this year, with officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Dr. Mehmet Oz filling the role. Former press secretary Sean Spicer noted that the president cares deeply about the position and requires a candidate who understands his voice and maintains a close relationship with him.
