Nikkei 225 Falls as Japan Consumer Prices Rise
The Nikkei 225 Index dropped 1.02 percent on Friday following Wall Street losses and a higher-than-expected rise in Japanese consumer prices.
The Nikkei 225 Index fell 1.02 percent to 65,539.11 on Friday, reversing previous gains. The decline followed sharp losses across major U.S. indices, including the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P 500, which closed lower on Thursday. Weakness in technology stocks and exporters drove the downturn, with market heavyweight SoftBank Group seeing a decline, while Toyota and Fast Retailing provided a partial offset with gains.
Economic data released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications showed that Japan's overall consumer prices rose 1.9 percent year-on-year in July, a figure that exceeded market expectations.
In global markets, crude oil prices surged after Donald Trump announced stringent economic measures against Iran. This volatility contributed to the negative cues received from Wall Street that pressured Japanese equities.
