China and Namibia Establish Shared Future Community Partnership

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah visited China to sign eight cooperation agreements and elevate bilateral relations to a shared future community centered on energy and critical minerals.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia conducted a state visit to China from July 5 to 11, 2026, culminating in the elevation of bilateral relations to a "China-Namibia community with a shared future for the new era." During high-level talks in Beijing, President Nandi-Ndaitwah and Chinese President Xi Jinping issued a joint statement committing to deeper political trust and the synergy of development strategies. Namibia reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle.

The two leaders signed eight cooperation agreements focusing on infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and critical minerals, specifically uranium, lithium, and rare earth elements. These deals emphasize technology transfer and the local processing of resources to support Namibia's economic diversification. China seeks to secure access to these strategic minerals and future oil production, as Namibia is projected to become Africa's fourth-largest oil producer by 2030.

Economic cooperation extended to specific industrial ventures. President Nandi-Ndaitwah witnessed a joint venture agreement between Namibia's Okaparwa Investment CC and China's Sany Energy Equipment Co Ltd to develop clean energy and oil and gas sectors. In Chengdu, the president met with Hyphen Hydrogen Energy and China National Chemical Engineering to strengthen the green hydrogen sector, which already employs 800 people. The visit concluded with commitments to modernize agriculture and develop the Port of Walvis Bay.
