Trump Threatens Iran as Hackers Target U.S. Infrastructure

Donald Trump escalated tensions with Iran on Tuesday by threatening that "a whole civilization will die tonight" unless Iran agrees to a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The threat coincided with the Pentagon providing a list of Iranian infrastructure targets for potential military strikes.

These developments follow the start of a war between the United States, Israel, and Iran on February 28. Amidst the conflict, several U.S. federal agencies issued a joint advisory warning that Iran-affiliated hackers are infiltrating industrial control systems across the United States. The intrusions specifically targeted government facilities and the energy and water sectors.

Federal officials reported that the actors exploited Rockwell Automation's Studio 5000 Logix Designer software and Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers. While the government did not disclose specific victims or the full extent of the damage, the advisory confirmed that the cyberattacks have caused financial losses and operational disruptions.
