Trump Says CFTC Working to Bring Hyperliquid to US
President Donald Trump announced that the CFTC is working to establish a legal pathway for the decentralized trading platform Hyperliquid to operate in the United States.
Donald Trump announced during a White House event on August 19 that Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Michael Selig is working to establish a fully compliant and legal pathway to bring the decentralized trading platform Hyperliquid into the United States. Hyperliquid currently restricts U.S. users through voluntary frontend geofencing rather than a government ban.
The remarks triggered a significant market reaction, with the platform's native token, HYPE, rising between 11% and 20% to a high of $72.28. Shares of Hyperliquid Strategies, a Nasdaq-listed treasury company, climbed as much as 30.4%.
While the CFTC has previously approved perpetual futures for centralized entities, no formal regulatory filing, timeline, or specific framework has been disclosed for the permissionless on-chain architecture of Hyperliquid. The announcement coincided with the first session of the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee on August 20.
