Trump Signs AI Order as U.S. Forces Exit Iraq
President Donald Trump designated AI as superintelligence and oversaw the final withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Iraq.
The United States completed the withdrawal of its final military forces from Iraq, ending more than two decades of presence following the invasion that overthrew Saddam Hussein. The Iraqi government declared the occasion Sovereignty Day, though Kurdish leaders expressed concern over the loss of U.S. air defenses during an ongoing U.S.-Iran war.
Donald Trump simultaneously advanced new domestic policies regarding technology and immigration. He signed an executive order designating artificial intelligence as superintelligence for government agencies and launched America.gov. Following a meeting with executives from six major AI companies, Trump stated the industry can largely self-regulate. The executives signed a non-enforceable agreement to monitor models and prevent harmful uses, which Trump described as "morally binding."
In a separate legal development, the Supreme Court of the United States allowed the administration to resume deporting migrants to countries not listed in their removal orders. This authorization remains in place pending full arguments scheduled for December.
