Ramaphosa Announces 1.67 Trillion Rand Infrastructure Pipeline Growth

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a five-fold increase in South Africa's Strategic Integrated Projects portfolio to 1.67 trillion rand to stimulate economic growth.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africa's Strategic Integrated Projects portfolio has grown to 1.67 trillion rand, marking a five-fold increase since 2020. Speaking at the third Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium in Cape Town, Ramaphosa stated that more than 264 billion rand ($16.5 billion) of work is expected to enter procurement within the next 12 to 18 months.

The pipeline consists of over 170 projects spanning energy, water, sanitation, transport, and municipal infrastructure. To enhance transparency and credibility, the government will implement quarterly performance reports to track the progress of these initiatives.

This expansion aims to address chronic unemployment and stimulate economic growth. Current gross fixed capital formation stands at 14% of GDP, which remains significantly below the government's 30% target for 2030. The push for infrastructure investment follows data from Statistics South Africa showing that the construction industry's contribution to the economy fell to 2.3% of value added in 2025.
