Ukrainian Drones Strike Three Yandex Data Centres in Russia

Yandex shut down its Vladimir region data centre following a series of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting the company's AI and data infrastructure.

Russian technology company Yandex shut down its data centre in the Vladimir region on Sunday, October 11, after a drone attack rendered several services unavailable. No injuries were reported in the incident, but it marked the third major strike against the company's infrastructure within four days.

The campaign began on Thursday with an attack on a data hub in Sasovo, which houses two of the three supercomputers used to develop the company's AI model. This was followed by a strike on Friday targeting a data centre in the Kaluga region.

The European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine has been identified as the perpetrator of the attacks in the Kaluga and Sasovo regions. The sequence of strikes has systematically targeted critical nodes of Yandex's data and artificial intelligence capabilities across multiple Russian regions.
