Anurag Thakur Files Privilege Notice Against Rahul Gandhi

Union Minister Anurag Thakur filed a privilege notice against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for allegedly using derogatory language against Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union Minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur filed a privilege notice against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on July 30, 2026, accusing him of contempt of the Lok Sabha. The motion stems from a July 29 debate regarding the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill-2026.

Thakur alleges that Gandhi violated Rule 352 of the Rules of Procedure by using offensive expressions and making unsubstantiated claims against Home Minister Amit Shah, specifically asserting that Shah was "scared" to be present in the House. The notice claims Gandhi disregarded directions from the Chair and obstructed parliamentary functions.

Thakur has requested that Speaker Om Birla refer the matter to the Committee of Privileges for a formal inquiry. He further demands that Gandhi tender an unconditional apology to both the House and Amit Shah. Speaker Om Birla has received the notice and requested proof to substantiate the allegations made by Gandhi during the debate.
