India and Russia Target 100 Billion Dollars Trade by 2030
India and Russia aim for a 100 billion dollar trade target by 2030 and plan celebrations for their 80th diplomatic anniversary in 2027.
India and Russia are pursuing a bilateral trade target of 100 billion dollars by 2030, a goal established by the Prime Minister of India and the President of the Russian Federation. Vinay Kumar, the Indian Ambassador to Russia, announced the target in Moscow on August 6, noting that both nations are expanding existing trade volumes while identifying new areas of cooperation.
Energy remains a central pillar of the partnership, with the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom continuing work on Units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu. Labor trends also show significant growth, as the number of skilled Indian workers in Russia has risen from roughly 10,000-15,000 in previous years to over 100,000.
Beyond economics, the two nations will commemorate the 80th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027 with a series of cultural, scientific, and commercial events across multiple cities. These developments occur as India prepares to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13 under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.' Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally invited Russia and other nations, including Bangladesh, to the summit. Progress on the trade goals will be reviewed during the next session of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation later this year.
