Trump Administration Probes Ilhan Omar for Immigration Fraud

Federal agents raided Representative Ilhan Omar's home as part of a criminal investigation into her citizenship and financial disclosures ahead of the midterm elections.

Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations raided the Washington, D.C. home of Representative Ilhan Omar on October 12, 2026, as part of a criminal investigation into alleged immigration fraud. The probe focuses on whether Omar or her late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, misrepresented her birth date on paperwork to obtain derivative citizenship in 2000. Investigators are also examining allegations that Omar married her brother to facilitate his legal status in the United States. During the search, agents seized 17 items, including Omar's passport, cellphone, and computers, and issued over a dozen grand jury subpoenas to her relatives.

Simultaneously, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro launched a separate investigation into Omar's financial disclosures. The probe follows a significant discrepancy in reported assets linked to Omar's husband, Tim Mynett, which initially jumped to $30 million before being amended back to under $100,000 as an accounting error. Omar has denied all wrongdoing, characterizing the raids as a "campaign of political intimidation" and an attempt to "weaponize federal law enforcement" against political enemies three weeks before the midterm elections.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly attacked Omar, calling her a "sick, very dishonest person who hates our country" and suggesting she could face imprisonment or deportation. While Trump denied personal involvement in the search, his administration's border czar, Tom Homan, stated the government has a "strong case" for denaturalization. Former President Barack Obama condemned the probe as a "transparent effort to intimidate" a political critic. Omar has since announced she will move out of her Washington home, stating the raid has made her feel unsafe.
