Iran Files UN Complaint After Trump Threatens Annihilation
Iran filed a formal UN complaint against Donald Trump for threats of annihilation while its military seized a second US underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Government of Iran filed a formal complaint with the United Nations on September 28, 2026, condemning U.S. President Donald Trump for threats to annihilate the Islamic Republic. In a letter to Secretary-General António Guterres, Iranian ambassador Gholamhossein Darzi argued that Trump's remarks during the 81st UN General Assembly violate international law and the UN Charter. The complaint cites Trump's statements that he would "annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly" and "drive them into hell with no chance of survival."
Simultaneously, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the seizure of a REMUS 600 autonomous underwater vehicle belonging to the United States Army in the Strait of Hormuz. This marks the second such capture in September, following the seizure of a Dive-LD submarine. The IRGC claimed the craft was conducting espionage and stated it is taking decisive actions against unauthorized passage in the waterway.
Iranian military leadership has warned of further escalation. Army Chief Commander Amir Hatami stated that the war with the United States and Israel is not over and that the enemy should expect further "crushing blows." Brigadier General Reza Akraminia added that any renewed U.S. aggression would trigger a more forceful and decisive response, calling for the complete expulsion of U.S. forces from West Asia to establish an indigenous security order.
