India and Oman Strengthen Ties Over Strait of Hormuz Security
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi in Muscat to discuss maritime security and bilateral trade.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi in Muscat on July 10 to advance the India-Oman Strategic Partnership. The ministers focused on increasing cooperation across trade, investment, energy, logistics, defense, and emerging technologies, including AI and cyber domains.
A primary focus of the talks centered on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. The two leaders discussed the impact of regional hostilities on international energy supplies and global trade chains, affirming a commitment to intensive diplomacy and coordination under international law to ensure freedom of navigation.
During the visit, Jaishankar thanked the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for providing prompt assistance to Indian seafarers during recent regional conflicts. He also met with members of the Indian diaspora in Oman to recognize their contributions to the bilateral partnership.
This visit was the fourth stop of a six-nation tour. Jaishankar previously visited Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, where he met with Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on July 9 to discuss the regional impact of the Gulf conflict. The tour continues with scheduled visits to New York on July 13 and Brussels on July 14-15 for a UN Security Council campaign and the India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting.
