Media Outlets Amend Lawsuit Against Trump Over White House Access
CNN, MS NOW, and Politico are suing President Donald Trump to restore their access to the Oval Office and Air Force One.
CNN, MS NOW, and Politico amended their lawsuit against Donald Trump on Wednesday, seeking the full restoration of their access to White House press pools. The outlets argue that the administration continues to unlawfully exclude them from the Oval Office and Air Force One, despite a previous order from U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly that restored general access to White House grounds.
The plaintiffs allege the administration is engaging in retaliatory viewpoint discrimination to punish negative coverage, which they claim violates the First Amendment and the Due Process Clause. The White House has reportedly barred CNN from its role as a primary television network pooler and removed MS NOW and Politico from their respective rotations.
This legal conflict follows a September ban initiated by Trump, who stated he was tired of fiction and lies written about his administration. A White House official defended the restrictions, stating that journalists do not have a constitutional right of access to private spaces such as the Oval Office.
