White House Blasts Kim Kardashian Over Immigration Policy Criticism

Kim Kardashian criticized President Donald Trump's mass deportation efforts during an awards ceremony in Venice, prompting a sharp rebuke from the Department of Homeland Security.

While receiving the DVF Leadership Award in Venice, Italy, Kim Kardashian criticized President Donald Trump's immigration policies and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids conducted under Operation Safeguard. Kardashian argued that while the government claims to target criminals, the raids affect innocent, hardworking people who helped build the United States, including personal acquaintances. She previously condemned June raids in Los Angeles, stating there "has to be a better way" to handle illegal immigration when families are separated in inhumane ways.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the White House responded with sharp criticism. Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin called Kardashian "misinformed and detached from the very reality of the operations in Los Angeles," asserting that the administration is removing violent criminals such as murderers and rapists. White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson added that President Trump is fulfilling his promise to deport criminal illegal aliens to "Make America Safe Again," regardless of opinions from "elite Hollywood celebrities."

The administration's crackdown, architected by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, has resulted in nearly 200,000 deportations since January. While the government maintains it targets the "worst of the worst," NBC data from June suggests only one-third of those arrested have criminal backgrounds. Despite her clash with the administration, Kardashian expressed a willingness to work with any White House to advocate for prisoners' rights, specifically seeking the release of Erik and Lyle Menendez.
