Atiku Abubakar Reveals He Rejected Tinubu Running Mate Offer

Atiku Abubakar revealed in a video interview that he previously rejected an offer from Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve as his running mate. The former Vice-President stated that Tinubu dispatched five elders, including Tom Ikimi and Bisi Akande, to propose the arrangement after Atiku had secured a presidential ticket. Atiku declined the offer, stating that a Muslim-Muslim ticket "would not be of the best interest of our country."

Atiku also recounted a similar dynamic during Muhammadu Buhari's 2014 campaign. He claimed he conditioned his political support on Buhari avoiding a Muslim-Muslim ticket. According to Atiku, Tinubu was upset when Buhari adhered to this condition. Atiku further alleged that Tinubu suggested his own wife as a Christian alternative before Buhari eventually nominated Yemi Osinbajo.
