Trump Approval Hits Second-Term Low Ahead of Midterms

President Donald Trump's approval ratings have dropped to 33-34% as polls show a majority of Americans prefer Democratic control of Congress.

Recent polling indicates that Donald Trump has reached his lowest approval ratings of his second term as the November 3 midterm elections approach. An NBC News Decision Desk Poll places his approval at 34%, while a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll reports it at 33%, with both surveys showing a 66% disapproval rating among U.S. adults.

Public sentiment suggests widespread dissatisfaction, with 71% of adults in the NBC poll believing the country is on the "wrong track." Respondents identified rising inflation, economic conditions, and administration corruption as primary concerns, and 58% stated that the president's policies are hurting the country. Skepticism also extends to a campaign promise of $5,000 payments to voters if Republicans maintain congressional control, which 71% of adults doubt they will receive.

Registered voters currently show a preference for the Democratic Party to control Congress, with margins ranging from 55% to 58% in favor of Democrats. The Washington Post poll noted that respondents view Democrats as more trustworthy in handling the economy for the first time in over a decade. Despite these gains, the Democratic Party still faces unfavorable views from 57% of adults.
