Nvidia Authorizes Record $150 Billion Share Buyback Program

Nvidia increased its share-repurchase authorization by $150 billion, the largest in U.S. history, to return excess AI-driven cash flow to shareholders through fiscal 2028.

The board of Nvidia approved a $150 billion increase to its share-repurchase program on September 28, 2026, bringing the company's total remaining buyback authorization to approximately $235 billion. This represents the largest stock buyback authorization increase in U.S. history, surpassing a $110 billion program previously unveiled by Apple Inc. in May 2024. The company expects to execute the remaining repurchases through the end of fiscal year 2028.

Chief Executive Jensen Huang attributed the company's massive cash generation to a "once-in-a-generation platform shift to A.I. and accelerated computing." Huang characterized the move as a response to the company's stock being undervalued, describing Nvidia as the world's first and only "growth value stock." The announcement follows a period of explosive growth, with quarterly revenue reaching $96.22 billion for the quarter ending in July, a 106% increase from the previous year.

The buyback follows months of pressure from CNBC's Jim Cramer, who urged the company to adopt an aggressive daily buying strategy to improve the stock's trajectory. While the move serves as a signal of confidence amid concerns over an AI bubble and competition from AMD and Intel, some critics argue the AI ecosystem is characterized by circularity. Simultaneously, Nvidia launched new AI security tools, including Open Shell and Nvidia Century, designed to isolate and shut down rogue AI agents in milliseconds.
