House Votes to Kill Impeachment Resolution Against Donald Trump

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 232-147 on Tuesday to table and effectively kill a resolution to impeach Donald Trump. The measure, introduced by Representative Al Green, cited the administration's immigration crackdown and deadly shootings by federal immigration agents, including the deaths of two U.S. citizens.

The vote revealed significant fractures within the Democratic Party. While a majority of Democrats supported the impeachment, 18 joined Republicans in voting to table the measure, and 46 members—including top party leadership—voted present. Democratic leaders argued that the resolution was premature because Representative Green failed to conduct formal hearings or an investigative process before bringing the charge to the floor.

Representative Green criticized the lack of party unity, suggesting that any vote other than impeachment supported the president. In contrast, Democratic leadership emphasized other priorities, with some members indicating that impeachment was not a primary goal for the caucus ahead of the November midterm elections.
