Polls Show Broad Voter Opposition to Trump's Iran Strikes
Donald Trump faces widespread voter disapproval over military strikes in Iran and economic management as midterm election polling indicates a shift toward Democrats.
Voters across the United States express significant opposition to military actions taken by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. While Republicans largely support the strikes, broad polling from Quinnipiac University, Ipsos, CNN, and NBC News indicates a majority of registered voters fear the conflict will decrease national security and drive up global oil and gasoline prices.
Donald Trump has provided conflicting signals regarding the duration of the war. On March 9, he suggested the conflict could end soon, but warned that the United States would take further action if Iran attempted to block the global oil supply. This perceived inconsistency has led to distrust in the president's judgment, with some voters arguing the strikes contradict his campaign promise to end long overseas wars.
Economic concerns further compound the administration's challenges. An NBC News poll conducted between February 27 and March 3 reveals that 62% of voters disapprove of the president's handling of inflation, while 55% believe his tariffs have harmed the economy. These trends, combined with the conflict in Iran, have given Democrats a 6-percentage-point lead over Republicans on the generic congressional ballot as the 2026 midterm election year begins.
