King Charles Hosts First Omani State Visit in 44 Years
King Charles III concluded a historic state visit with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said before traveling to Aberfan for disaster commemorations.
King Charles III hosted Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said at Windsor Castle for the first state visit by an Omani Sultan to the United Kingdom in 44 years. The visit featured a state banquet attended by eight working members of the royal family. Following the farewell at the castle, Sultan Haitham proceeded to Downing Street for talks with Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Concurrent with the diplomatic visit, Prince Harry spoke with GQ magazine regarding his relationship with the royal family. He expressed a desire to reconcile, stating, "I want it to work out," though he suggested some others may not share that goal. A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex later clarified that the remarks were not intended as a swipe at his brother or other family members.
Following the Sultan's departure, King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince of Wales traveled to Aberfan. The royal party gathered there to mark the 60th anniversary of the disaster that killed 144 people.
