Iran Vows Force After Alleging U.S. Ceasefire Violations

The Iranian Foreign Ministry declared on August 2, 2026, that the nation will use all available means and its Armed Forces will continue defensive operations with "full force" to resist ongoing United States aggression. Tehran alleges that the U.S. violated a June 18 memorandum of understanding, mediated by Pakistan, which was intended to end hostilities.

Specific accusations against the U.S. include the maintenance of a naval blockade of Iranian ports and attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure. Iran also claims the U.S. has facilitated illegal vessel movements through the Strait of Hormuz. The ministry characterized these actions as violations of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and UN General Assembly Resolution 3314.

Iranian officials criticized the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General for failing to take meaningful action to halt the aggression. The ministry linked the current tensions to a broader history of U.S. colonial ambitions and what it termed the "aggressive US-Israeli alliance."
