Amir of Qatar Calls for Regional Collective Security at UN

Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani addressed the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, calling for the establishment of a regional system of collective security. He asserted that regional peace and stability depend on dialogue, negotiation, and just resolutions based on international law and respect for state sovereignty, warning that unresolved conflicts increase in cost over time.

During his visit, the Amir met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and the State of Qatar. In his broader address, Sheikh Tamim emphasized mediation and diplomacy as the core pillars of Qatari foreign policy, specifically highlighting the need for a just solution to the Palestinian issue and the protection of international waterways to ensure freedom of navigation.

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani described the Amir's diplomatic strategy as a reflection of a firmly established approach that combines steadfast principles with flexibility. The Amir also linked Gulf security to global stability and reaffirmed Qatar's domestic commitment to economic diversification, education, and healthcare under the Qatar National Vision 2030.
