Omar Touray Bids Farewell to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja

Outgoing President of the ECOWAS Commission Omar Alieu Touray met with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Thursday to bid farewell before his mandate expires at the end of August. Touray, a Gambian diplomat who led the regional bloc's executive arm from 2022 to 2026, was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sola Enikanolaiye during the closed-door meeting.

During the visit, Touray credited Tinubu and Nigeria for reducing political and security tensions across West Africa and advancing regional integration. He described the Nigerian leader as a pillar in the region and a committed statesman whose leadership was central to restoring stability in the subregion. Touray specifically noted that Tinubu served two terms as Chair of the ECOWAS Authority and praised his openness and commitment to the vision of an integrated West Africa.

The meeting occurs as the Economic Community of West African States prepares for an executive leadership transition while continuing to address security, economic, and political challenges across the region.
