Meta Prototypes Super-Sensing AI Glasses With Continuous Recording

Meta is developing AI smart glasses that continuously capture audio and video to act as personal agents, raising internal privacy concerns over recording indicators.

Meta Platforms Inc. is prototyping a new generation of AI-powered smart glasses, internally dubbed super-sensing, designed to continuously capture audio and images throughout the day. The technology takes photos every few seconds and collects audio to create a comprehensive knowledge base, allowing a personal AI assistant to help users recall daily events or locate misplaced items.

Reports indicate that company executives are considering disabling the LED recording indicator when these features are active, which would prevent bystanders from knowing they are being recorded. The company is weighing two data handling methods: extracting only metadata for Meta AI without storing original files, or using the recorded data to train AI models to compete with rivals such as Google and OpenAI.

While the company declined to comment on internal prototypes, a spokesperson stated that the company is committed to developing technologies with privacy built in from the ground up. Mark Zuckerberg has suggested that these glasses could evolve into personal agents that assist users around the clock and eventually replace smartphones as the primary AI interface.

These developments follow the June 23, 2026, launch of a new line of self-branded smart glasses manufactured by EssilorLuxottica. This lineup includes the Fury and Adventurer models, as well as the Starfire by Kylie, which features a custom AI voice and style from Kylie Jenner.
