Brian Kemp Extends Georgia Fuel Tax Suspension
Governor Brian Kemp extended Georgia's motor fuel tax suspension and waived penalties for using dyed diesel in highway vehicles to support farmers and truckers.
Governor Brian Kemp signed an executive order on October 6 extending Georgia's state motor fuel tax suspension through November 5. The order renews a petroleum supply state of emergency for 30 days and maintains relaxed weight limits for commercial vehicles.
To support the fall harvest season, Kemp waived state penalties for farmers, timber producers, and truckers using off-road dyed diesel in highway vehicles. This state-level action follows an October 5 executive order from President Donald Trump, which directed the U.S. Treasury secretary to facilitate federal penalty relief for the same practice.
Data from AAA indicates the tax suspension has helped lower fuel prices in the state. As of Wednesday, Georgia's average regular gasoline price was approximately $3.85 to $3.86 per gallon, remaining significantly below the national average.
