Donald Trump Links French Student Protests to Mass Migration
Donald Trump claimed French student protests are driven by mass migration and Islam, contradicting reports that the demonstrations focus on school funding and staffing.
President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that ongoing student protests in France are the result of "out of control mass migration" and an attempt by Islam to "take over a once great Country." These assertions contrast with reports that students, parents, and teachers in 40 French cities have been demonstrating since September 17 to demand smaller class sizes, better funding, and improved conditions for understaffed schools.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot responded to the external commentary, stating that rivals and partners are attempting to describe the protests in their own way. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France Insoumise, attributed the violence during the demonstrations to police provocation.
Other American figures have promoted similar narratives. Tomi Lahren characterized the unrest as a cautionary tale regarding open borders, while Alex Jones falsely claimed the protests were a racial uprising involving multiple deaths. Reports indicate there have been zero deaths associated with the movement, and while some demonstrators have protested racism and police brutality, immigration has not been a central theme of the protests.
