Trump Invests $3 Billion to Revitalize U.S. Supply Chains
President Donald Trump is supplementing China tariffs with billions in subsidies and new import bans to secure domestic critical mineral and technology supply chains.
The United States government is adjusting its trade strategy toward China by combining tariffs with targeted subsidies and regulatory restrictions to strengthen domestic supply chains. Donald Trump announced $3 billion in new investments for critical minerals projects, focusing on battery production and procurement for the Department of Defense. This funding follows more than $10 billion previously committed to rare earths and permanent magnets.
To protect the semiconductor and solar industries, the administration has established price floors on imported polysilicon. Simultaneously, the Federal Communications Commission has banned several targeted imports, including solar-powered electricity components and advanced robotic devices. The agency is currently drafting an order to ban data center components manufactured in China.
These economic and regulatory measures are being implemented ahead of a scheduled visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the United States next month.
