Donald Trump Considers Nicki Minaj for Press Secretary Role

President Donald Trump expressed openness to appointing rapper Nicki Minaj as White House press secretary following suggestions from staff and media.

President Donald Trump described the suggestion of appointing rapper Nicki Minaj as White House press secretary as a "good idea" during an interview with commentator Benny Johnson. While Trump stated he would think about the proposal, he made no formal offer and suggested that Johnson himself could also be suitable for the role.

The possibility emerged after White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted a video of Minaj aboard Air Force One on October 25, jokingly questioning if she should fill the position. The role has been vacant since the October removal of Katie Zacharia, who had succeeded Karoline Leavitt in August.

Minaj has actively campaigned for the administration, appearing at a Republican rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on October 25. During the event, she urged voters to support Republican candidates in the November 3 midterm elections and pledged her lasting loyalty to the president. Trump complimented Minaj's appearance during the rally, specifically referring to her "beautiful a**."

The staffing speculation drew a critical response from California Governor Gavin Newsom's press office, which stated, "We can only pray."
