Trump Administration Seeks to Deport Representative Ilhan Omar

The Trump administration is attempting to denaturalize and deport Representative Ilhan Omar following a federal investigation into her immigration paperwork and use of an alias.

The Trump administration is attempting to denaturalize and deport Ilhan Omar, a Democratic Representative from Minnesota. Federal investigators are probing whether Omar or her father provided false information regarding her birth date and age during the naturalization process, and whether she has used an alias throughout her life.

Court filings from U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro identify the congresswoman as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar." As part of the investigation, Homeland Security Investigations agents raided Omar's Washington, D.C. residence on October 12, seizing computers and phones. Omar's representatives claim the raid violated court-ordered guidelines by failing to consult House counsel.

President Donald Trump has publicly criticized Omar, suggesting she could face jail or deportation. Omar has denied all allegations of immigration fraud, describing the federal search as political intimidation. Former President Barack Obama has also publicly raised concerns about the case, while legal experts suggest the probe may signal that the citizenship of naturalized Americans is provisional.
