Critics Slam New York Times for Troy Jackson Profile

Critics accuse The New York Times of omitting key political issues and campaign funding details in a profile of Maine Senate candidate Troy Jackson.

Critics are accusing The New York Times of bias following a September 20 profile of Troy Jackson titled “A Progressive Brawler Tries to Flip a Senate Seat in Maine.” The publication is under fire for omitting Jackson's views on the treatment of Palestinians and failing to report millions of dollars in contributions from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and related donors to the campaign of Senator Susan Collins.

While the profile excluded these political and financial details, it included an account of an alleged 1988 pushing incident between Jackson and his partner. Both parties involved deny that the event occurred.

Opponents of the coverage frame these omissions as part of a larger pattern of criticized Israel coverage at the newspaper. This includes allegations of internal guidance directing staff to avoid using terms such as "genocide" and "occupied territory" in their reporting.
