Anti-Netanyahu Bloc Secures 67-Seat Israeli Parliamentary Majority

Opposition leaders in Israel hold a 67-seat majority but remain divided over whether to include Arab political parties in a new governing coalition.

Opponents of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have secured a 67-seat majority in the Israeli Parliament following recent elections. The bloc faces a strategic dilemma regarding the inclusion of Arab political parties in a governing coalition, as the majority includes 19 seats held by the United Arab List and the Joint List.

Gadi Eisenkot, the former military chief leading the opposition, is weighing three primary paths forward: forming a minority government supported by outside Arab cooperation, pursuing a unity government with allies of Netanyahu, or calling for new elections. The Arab parties saw a record turnout of 77 percent, with Joint List leader Yousef Jabareen vowing to help remove Netanyahu from power.

Internal divisions persist among the opposition. Yair Golan, leader of the left-wing Democrats party, argues that including Arab lawmakers is essential for stability and democracy. Conversely, other leaders express concerns that such a partnership would risk national security or betray Jewish solidarity. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who won 53 seats, has claimed without evidence that Arab parties stole the election.
