Indian Trade Associations Urge Rahul Gandhi to End Protests

Trade associations have appealed to Rahul Gandhi to withdraw protests against the Election Commission of India to prevent further festive season business disruptions.

Multiple trade associations across India have appealed to Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to withdraw ongoing protests led by the INDIA bloc and the Cockroach Janata Party. The demonstrations target the Election Commission of India over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Representatives from the National Traders Welfare Board and the New Delhi Traders' Association warn that security restrictions, including road blockades and market closures, are disrupting commercial activities. These disruptions occur during a critical festive window encompassing Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.

Traders argue that the protests jeopardize the livelihoods of wholesalers and small and medium enterprises that rely on holiday sales to recover investments. The National Traders Welfare Board specifically noted that the recent protests have been affecting business significantly during a period when many traders depend on the festive season for their survival.
