Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro are tied at 50% of valid votes each as the Brazilian election campaign enters its final stretch. A Datafolha poll conducted between October 20 and 22 shows the race has tightened since the previous week, when Bolsonaro held a lead of 51% to Lula's 49%.
While the candidates are tied in valid votes, Bolsonaro maintains a slight lead in total votes, polling at 47% compared to 46% for Lula. The survey of 2,520 people carries a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
Lula's campaign characterized the tie as a sign of momentum and gains. Conversely, allies of Flávio Bolsonaro acknowledged the narrowing gap but downplayed the significance of the result.
