Atiku Abubakar Praises Osun Voters for Resisting APC Intimidation
Atiku Abubakar praised Osun State voters for defending their ballots against alleged state-led coercion and called for institutional independence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar praised the voters of Osun State for resisting intimidation and defending their ballots during a recent governorship election. Abubakar asserted that the will of the people prevailed despite the deployment of military personnel and a political occupation force by the ruling All Progressives Congress administration.
He characterized the election as a blueprint for the 2027 general elections, arguing that organized citizen resistance can overcome state-led coercion. Abubakar stated, "In a democracy, power resides with the people, and Osun voters have sent that message resoundingly."
Abubakar called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the judiciary to maintain institutional independence. He specifically urged these bodies to resist pressure from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to manipulate electoral outcomes or use the judiciary to achieve political goals not obtained through the ballot box.
