US Investigates $6.3 Billion Binance Cryptocurrency Hack
President Donald Trump announced a US government investigation into a record $6.3 billion hack of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange.
President Donald Trump announced that the United States government is investigating a $6.3 billion hack of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange, marking the largest theft of its kind on record. The attack spanned multiple blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, with a significant portion of the funds moved within a 20-minute window.
Blockchain intelligence firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, a cybercrime group based in North Korea. However, President Trump stated that the administration does not yet know if North Korea is responsible for the breach.
In response to the incident, Binance suspended all deposits and withdrawals. Partner firms froze approximately $3 billion in tied assets to prevent further loss. Binance co-CEO Richard Teng stated the company will cover all losses associated with the hack and is collaborating with global law enforcement to seek justice.
