Modi Leads NDA Meeting on Exam Leak Bill

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party during its weekly 'Mangal Milan' meeting on July 28 at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in New Delhi. The session was marked by the first official invitation of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), a new group formed by former Trinamool Congress rebels who now support the coalition.

Modi addressed the gathering regarding the NEET examination paper leaks, stating that the government "stands with the students" and describing the irregularities as a "matter of national concern that should not be politicised." The meeting focused on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, introduced in the Lok Sabha by Minister Jitendra Singh. The bill proposes fast-track courts and strict penalties, including fines up to Rs 10 crore and 10-year imprisonment, to combat exam malpractices.

These legislative efforts occurred amid a stormy Monsoon Session. Opposition parties have disrupted proceedings, demanding accountability from Home Minister Amit Shah for police actions during the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' protest and alleged brutality against students at Jantar Mantar. Opposition members also briefly walked out of a separate all-party meeting to protest the NDA's inclusion of the NCPI.
